COVID-19: Emergency funds

We are aware that many of the organisations and people we fund, and the communities they serve, are facing unprecedented challenges. To help support and alleviate immediate hardship, we are pleased to announce details of our contribution to two emergency funds for the charitable sector:

  • National Emergencies Trust (NET): £500,000
The National Emergencies Trust has launched a fundraising appeal to help those most affected by the coronavirus outbreak. They will award grants to local charities UK wide, prioritising those supporting older people and those with severe health issues, community organisations that support people on low incomes, and disadvantaged communities. Funds will be distributed through a network of 46 community foundations across the UK who are well-placed to understand the local impact. Find out who your local community foundation is here.
  • London Community Response Fund: £500,000
Joining funders including the Mayor of London, Bloomberg, City Bridge Trust, John Lyon’s Charity, Trust for London and the Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, this emergency scheme coordinated by London Funders will be available to organisations in the capital facing immediate financial pressures and uncertainty due to the covid-19 outbreak.

Moira Sinclair, Chief Executive of Paul Hamlyn Foundation, commented: “The charitable sector is needed now more than ever, providing critical support to some of the most vulnerable communities across the country. Our trustees are mindful of the need to act, and to act quickly. We are a small part of a much larger collective, nationwide effort, involving government, national agencies and our philanthropic peers. We are committing additional resources now and over the coming weeks to make sure that we come through this next period and to help us emerge as the connected, vital society we value and are all missing so much.”
